Ten tips to help you become to be more assertive.

  1. Work at understanding the other person’s point of view.
  2. It’s OK to agree to disagree.
  3. Be open to a different point of view.
  4. Stay calm, un-emotional, relaxed.
  5. Take a problem-solving approach.
  6. View the other person as your ally not your enemy.
  7. Consider how you can both win.
  8. Use ‘I’ language statements e.g. ‘I think’ or ‘I feel’; t
  9. Eliminate “You” from your statements.
  10. Be patient… practice extending your fuse.
